Small Business Owner Book #1
I know not that many people read this blog, but I think one of the most interesting things about our business is that we are run by ourselves and not a corporate practice. Corporate practices are enticing because they allow the dentist to just do the dentistry, however sometimes they push treatment to try to make money. At our business, we are in charge of every last thing which is challenging and rewarding at the same time. I decided that I would start reading books about business. The first one was given to me by my mom, Catherine Sigler, called the One Minute Manager. Me and Kristen, who is our right hand worker is also reading the books at the same time.
So I thought I would do a mini book report!
Overall Grade: B+. I thought this was a good book, but it really only makes three main points. But the three main points are good.
- Set short goals that can be written and read very quickly
- Be quick to give praise and do it in a short manner sincerely
- Be quick to give reprimands and do it in a short manner sincerely (without attacking the person)
How I am going to implement this:
I think it is always a good thing to remind ourselves that people do better when you encourage them. I don’t think I do that enough. Also, I do not reprimand quickly which I think is good as long as you tell people you are going to do it before hand.
Overall, this book is wort the read. What is the next book I should read?
